If you look back over the history of linguistics to beyond the time such a word even existed, over the shoulders of Saussure, Jakobson and the Brothers Grimm to the earliest philologists and language investigators, there was no obvious reason to suppose that language was innate. Or at least not innate in that way. Many believed, quite seriously, that the Biblical explanation in the story of the Tower of Babel was the true answer to the riddle of language, just as they believed in the Flood and the Creation. Others thought that there was a ‘natural’ language, a primary tongue. Some suggested that it was Latin, others, out of religiosity, that it must be Hebrew, Greek or Aramaic. They went so far, under the patronage of bishops and monarchs who took an interest in the subject, as to take foundling children by way of experiment and isolate them completely from all human congress, to give them no access to language at all while they grew up, in the hope that they would revert to some posited universal and original language, the linguistic equivalent of a chemical element or primary tissue, and thereby prove once and for all which of the world’s tongues had primacy. Of course what happened was that such children invented their own language amongst themselves, true languages with wide vocabularies and complex syntactical structures. It is a shame in a way that it would now be considered too cruel to repeat the experiments, just imagine how much would be revealed by a study of these unique languages.

Song Lyric game. Post lyrics for other people to identify the song.
Twist: Lyrics must be re-interpreted so you can't just google the answer.
If you enjoy frivolously wasting money, I will inform you that I am a good reference Sometimes you emerge victorious, sometimes you don't, but it doesn't make a difference to me The enjoyment derives from the activity itself, irrelevant of what you say I don't partake in your pursuit of wealth, for I only need a single cardboard rectangle
Start your day with an uncondesending and an unobtrusive companion A tune is played that has eluded you for awhile and its magic defines your disposition for the morning
THIS ONE IS MERELY AN IMPOVERISHED PREPUBESCENT MEMBER OF SOCIETY WHO HAS PREVIOUSLY DWELT WITH A COLLECTIVE OF IMPOVERISHED BLOOD RELATIVES. WE BESEECH THEE SPARE HIM FROM THE ONCOMING HORRORS LURKING IN THE SHADOWS
High ranking officials of the military convene They are alike the convention of heathens that were burned long ago Sadistic thoughts that lean on malevolence Wizards that were made by Death himself
Yet I think it's quite ridiculous and also quite depressing when I imagine my demise in REM sleep they are some of the better dreams I have experienced It it very difficult to say Because I don't quite understand it That human beings have a tendency to spiral That is truly, quite a Neurotic Providence
It appears that you have recieved a vicious blow of some kind, most likely from a blunt instrument from a charismatic felon
If you decide to commandeer and automobile, I shall charge a tariff on the road. If you decide to rest your legs, I will charge another tariff on the thing that you place your body on. If the outside temperature becomes less than satisfactory, I will also charge a tariff on the means of heating your abode. If you decide to partake in bipedal movement, I will take the highly unorthodox action of placing a tariff on your lowermost appendages. If you should ask why I would do such a thing, then know this: It is because I am a collector of internal revenue. Indeed, a collector of internal revenue.
The girl told me that we have to grasp with what's left. Whether or not we live or die, it did not matter. It's good enough that she was with me. It's enough for lovin', so let's try.
I can't speak much about my life besides that it is fairly ordinary, I enjoy observing pools of water collect precipitation. The only action I can perform is to pour hot beverages for a pair, and share my opinions on life even though they are not particularly rational
Because i'm trinitrotoluene, yes I'm nitroglycerin trinitrotoluene, and I'll win the brawl.
Comments still off. I trust you can answer some though.

Light and matter are both single entities, and the apparent duality arises in the limitations of our language. It is not surprising that our language should be incapable of describing the processes occurring within the atoms, for, as has been remarked, it was invented to describe the experiences of daily life, and these consist only of processes involving exceedingly large numbers of atoms. Furthermore, it is very difficult to modify our language so that it will be able to describe these atomic processes, for words can only describe things of which we can form mental pictures, and this ability, too, is a result of daily experience. Fortunately, mathematics is not subject to this limitation, and it has been possible to invent a mathematical scheme — the quantum theory — which seems entirely adequate for the treatment of atomic processes; for visualization, however, we must content ourselves with two incomplete analogies — the wave picture and the corpuscular picture.

It begins, as most things begin, with a song.
In the beginning, after all, were the words, and they came with a tune. That was how the world was made, how the void was divided, how the lands and the stars and the dreams and the little gods and animals, how all of them came into the world.
They were sung.
The great beasts were sung into existence, after the Singer had done with the planets and the hills and the trees and the oceans and the lesser beasts. The cliffs that bound existence were sung, and the hunting grounds, and the dark.
Songs remain. They last. The right song can turn an emperor into a laughingstock, and bring down dynasties. A song can last long after the events and the people in it are dust and dreams and gone.
That's the power of songs. They make worlds and recreate existence.

* I saw a man today in a jeep wearing a SLUSHO! T-Shirt. I really was tempted to ask him if I could have his shirt. He looked to be in his 40s
* Enjoying enjoying the hell out of the music of Jonathan Coulton. Nerd/Geek Rock forever. Stay Alive's also a pretty cool song too. But his Folk Rock version of Baby Got Back is all sorts of LULZ.
* Pretty convinced Mall Of Asia has a Tekken 6 arcade machine. If Megamall has one then surely the biggest mall in Asia should have one too.
* There's probably a reason why I never picked up a PSP. One being the lack of video out. But now the new Slim and Lite PSPs have that option and are way cheaper than before. Plus the bundles are pretty sweet. I already have my eye on THIS.
* Figured out finally the lyrics to the new Razorback song Daan Daaang Dahilan. P.O.T. might be playing March 31 with them over in Music Museum.
* There's a blues festival next weekend in Makati that's free admission. But there's also the Phil. Jazz festival with LEE RITENOUR as the main act for one of the days. I gatta plan out how to hit both. Fuck the Incubus concert.
* But......I would watch Journey in a heartbeat.
* Oh and somewhere today, I had my thesis finals.

That is all. That is fucking all. Elaboration on certain points next post.

“Evangelion is like a puzzle, you know. Any person can see it and give his/her own answer. In other words, we're offering viewers to think by themselves, so that each person can imagine his/her own world. We will never offer the answers, even in the theatrical version. As for many Evangelion viewers, they may expect us to provide the 'all-about Eva' manuals, but there is no such thing. Don't expect to get answers by someone. Don't expect to be catered to all the time. We all have to find our own answers.” -庵野秀明
It has begun...

Have you folks seen ONCE yet? C'mon everyone! Srsly. You owe it yourselves to see this.

I really really hope that it picks up the Oscar for Best Song. Though I am miffed at the snubbing of Eddie Vedder.
This is the rare movie whose most powerful scene actually takes place in the beginning. If you did see it (THANKS!), I hope you know which part I'm taking about.

What a final role to have right? It sucks to think now of how much potential we'll be missing out on. His turn as The Joker practically set him up for greatness (If he wasn't already there).

Because I belong (sorta) to the workforce now, I have to pimp out things my employers are doing.

ROGUE'S GALLERY Images From The Magazine
on October 6, 2007 (Saturday) at 6:00 P.M. Archaeology, 2nd floor - Rockwell Powerplant Mall
Brought to you by: Asti, Bacardi, Bombay, HP, Pazzo, and Sounds Good
I also kinda forgot that when things make you apprehensive (in this case, NERVs) you always ALWAYS make it a point to channel your energy and make it into a Zen like experience.
By that I mean always pump up the volume on something to relax you. Coincidentally, the song is called Zenergy. It's by one of the premiere Jazz bassists around Victor Wooten. Playing on drums is Carter Beauford from the Dave Matthews Band.
Download. You'll be glad you did.

With the advice/warning that I have to make my thesis panel (The not-quite-old-and-not-purely-men of SEELE) "see what I see" and "make them understand", I've decided to bring with me on my defense:
My Revoltechs of Units 00, 01 and 02. To serve not only as visual aids (Emphasis on AIDS for Unit 00) but to watch over the panel. The series and EoE. In order to further explain the complex themes, I've decided to show key scenes to the panel to elaborate my points on postmodernism, religion, psychology and everything else that made Evangelion what it is. A short Powerpoint presentation with images from the show (maybe to get to some points quicker than the above option.)
Hmmmmm. I gatta figure out which clips to show then. Obviously for the Religious iconography part I can use PPT. But the postmodernism and psychology part I'm ganna need clips.
There's some initial enthusiasm within the panel about my thesis (As I learned from Cameron Crowe, pull on the heartstrings).
I shall come at this with full force. Breaking AT-Fields and shoving N2 mines like it was no one's business.
